A blog about advertising, copywriting, creativity &c.
Sure, call it a comeback.

Sure, call it a comeback.

Iconic screenshot from the music video for LL Cool J’ “Mama Said Knock You Out” — a moody, dramatically lit black-and-white shot of Mr. Cool J silhouetted against the ropes of a boxing ring, his face barely visible in the hood of a black sweatshirt, as he holds a boxing announcer’s drop-down microphone and raps about making the tears rain down like a monsoon.
Destruction, terror, mayhem, and strong feelings about the Oxford comma. (Def Jam/Columbia)

(Far be it from me to dispute Mr. Cool J — we’re just at different points in our journey at the moment.)

I promised the blog would be back, and it is! Somewhat later than I’d hoped, and involving more time, effort, and financial outlay than I’d hoped (don’t even ask), but I’m back, baby. So watch this space for more: more opinions, more jokes that are funny to me at least, more unsolicited advice for baby creatives, more roundups of ads I didn’t make but wish I had, and more more, ideally on a more consistent posting schedule. (And last year’s Weepies will be making an appearance, because the second-best time to plant that tree is now, and the third-best time is probably a couple of weeks from now.)

It sucked to be gone, and it’s great to be back, and I look forward to remaining back. Rockin’ my peers. Puttin’ suckers in fear. And so forth.

*I can neither confirm nor deny that “Mama Said Knock You Out” has been my pre-client-meeting hype-up music since I got started in this industry, as well as my mom’s ringtone.
