As for the rest of them\u2026 You\u2019ll thank me later.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>I introduced the <a href=\"https:\/\/capertongillett.com\/blog\/introducing-the-creepy-awards-super-bowl-lvii\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Creepy Awards<\/a> (a companion piece to our annual <a href=\"https:\/\/capertongillett.com\/blog\/tag\/the-weepies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Weepy Awards<\/a>) in 2023 as a celebration of the weird-ass stuff many ad agencies crank out every year for the big stage of the Big Game. Because advertisers love going creepy for the Super Bowl, and why not? You want to stand out, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nQcfK9EKfL4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Puppy Monkey Baby<\/a> got the job done in spades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the creepiness this year just feels\u2026 <em>different<\/em>. It\u2019s not disturbing-monkey-baby-hybrid different, it\u2019s\u2026 dark. It\u2019s off. This is the first year I\u2019ve felt a Creepy Award winner might need a trigger warning. It\u2019s not a banner year for creepy ads, is my point, and I apologize for that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting into it. I am actually going to bring us in to the awards with some touching ads, in preparation for what\u2019s to come \u2014 the single piece of white bread before you leave for a night out in a feeble attempt to head off the inevitable hangover: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZmjX1S0VLq4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">kid giving a pep talk to his team of toys<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VvEFiLqsCDw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the kind of neighborhood Ring would just <em>love<\/em> to surveil<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=84MCtvXCt9E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">girls celebrating body confidence in sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026 And we were going to have to get to the Creepy stuff eventually, so no more stalling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Honorable Mentions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Levi&#8217;s, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=M9ha76AkTls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&#8220;Backstory&#8221;<\/a><em> (TBWA\\Chiat\\Day LA). <\/em>Not honestly all that creepy, but I do say this as an avowed butt woman: That\u2019s just a <em>lot<\/em> of butts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Hellmann\u2019s, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5TpdUBwyL4c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&#8220;Sweet Sandwich Time&#8221;<\/a><em> (VML US).<\/em> Bologna with a face, plus, stay away from my sandwich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Anthropic, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kQRu7DdTTVA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cCan I get a six pack quickly?\u201d<\/a><em> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FBSam25u8O4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cHow can I communicate better with my mom?\u201d<\/a> (Mother).<\/em> Legit, for-real creepy, but intentionally so, and we have a policy of scoring down ads that pander to the judges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bronze: Xfinity, \u201cJurassic Park\u2026 Works\u201d (Goodby Silverstein &amp; Partners)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Right out of the gate: Screw you, GS&amp;P, for bringing your creepy AI de-aging to my <em>Jurassic Park<\/em> theme and assorted assets. You don\u2019t deserve alluringly lounging Jeff Goldblum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jurassic Park... Works (Extended) | Big Game Commercial 2026 | Xfinity\" width=\"693\" height=\"390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KKwxWPp2dhw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Silver: Ring, \u201cBe A Hero In Your Neighborhood\u201d (Amazon\/Ring)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now we move to a dystopian kind of creepy that makes you long for the uncanny valley. It\u2019s a sweet, geriatric yellow lab! Everyone wants to rescue sweet Milo and the little girl who\u2019s despondent at his loss. Now imagine instead of an adorable puppy, it\u2019s the L&amp;D nurse with three kids who lives two houses down and overstayed her student visa in 1998. Which comes into the picture when Ring (at the time of the ad) was partnered with a company that shares data with law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Search Party from Ring | Be A Hero In Your Neighborhood\" width=\"693\" height=\"390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OheUzrXsKrY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Just in the five days since the Big Game, though, there has been a development: Amid overwhelmingly negative response from, like, everyone in every industry, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/digital\/news\/amazon-ring-cancels-flock-partnership-super-bowl-ad-backlash-dog-finder-1236662108\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ring has canceled its partnership with Flock<\/a>. Because the integration \u201cwould require significantly more time and resources than anticipated,\u201d of course, and not because the entire world is horrified by Ring\u2019s Adorable Puppy Surveillance Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gold: MAHA Center Inc., \u201cProcessed Food Kills, Eat Real Food\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s the ad that, and I\u2019m not actually kidding, needs a trigger warning for eating disorders, body image issues, and self-harm \u2014 take care of your emotional health and skip down to the palate cleansers if you need to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Brett Ratner-directed (of course) ad features a dimly lit Mike Tyson, shot in ominous black and white and backed by ominous music, talking about how he used to be so \u201cfat and nasty\u201d he wanted to kill himself. Then we get shots of him eating produce with near-sexual relish as he bemoans America\u2019s epidemic of \u201cobese, fudgy people\u201d and warns us about the danger of processed food, with an onscreen warning that Processed Food Kills and a URL directing us to a government website to learn more, and\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m actually going to say it sounds more like internalized fat shaming that might have killed Mike Tyson, but ymmv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Super Bowl Ad: Processed Food Kills, Eat Real Food\" width=\"693\" height=\"390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n4F4yZhmMho?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The ad was funded, shockingly, by MAHA Center Inc., and where are the Chick-fil-A cows when you need them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A palate cleanser<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Because this year\u2019s Creepy winners were actually <em>more<\/em> creepy than is generally considered fun, here\u2019s an ad (courtesy of BBDO New York, and we thank you) that was actually really moving and beautiful and, incidentally, shot entirely with practical effects, so screw your AI slop, EAGLE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Budweiser | Super Bowl LX Commercial &#039;American Icons&#039;\" width=\"693\" height=\"390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a_mh-v02-Tw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Baby draft horses, man. Take a regular-horse foal that hasn\u2019t entirely sorted out its legs yet, and then give it EVEN MORE LEG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pPHI2zNf_ww\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pepsi\u2019s ad<\/a> with the (implied) Coca-Cola polar bear in therapy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pEYkM3boSos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pringle\u2019s Pringle-man ad<\/a> that might should have been a Creepy contender but Sabrina Carpenter is just so damn endearing, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=G6FuWd4wNd8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bad Bunny\u2019s entire halftime show<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway, that\u2019s it for the 2026 Creepies, and I\u2019m sorry they were more weird-creepy than fun-creepy.
