God knows this isn\u2019t a place I like to get loud or controversial, because Career, but some things are important enough to do it anyway:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019ve been throwing your support behind the actions and policies of our current administration, this is the time to reexamine that support and your values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the time \u2014 not \u201clater,\u201d not \u201cif things start looking bad,\u201d but now \u2014 to ask yourself if your personal values really align with the things you\u2019re currently standing behind. It\u2019s time to ask yourself how many excuses you\u2019ve made to square what you\u2019ve been seeing with what you truly believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because the more excuses you allow yourself to make, the more excuses you\u2019ll force yourself to continue making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s okay if THAT person was killed, because they should have just complied with orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s okay if THOSE people are treated inhumanely, because they broke the rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s okay if THOSE people suffer, because they got themselves into that situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s okay if THAT person\u2019s rights are violated, because they\u2019re a bad person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s okay if THOSE people feel unsafe in their own homes, because if they aren\u2019t doing anything wrong, they won\u2019t be targeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s okay if THOSE people are silenced, because their beliefs aren\u2019t right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s okay if THOSE people are threatened for protesting and recording \u2014 if they didn\u2019t want to be roughed up, they should have stayed home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s okay if THOSE people are threatened with prison or death for their speech, because they\u2019re endangering our strength and unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of this is obviously fine, obviously, because there\u2019s a reasonable, rational excuse right there for everything that\u2019s taken place. If it did ever get out of hand, if anything ever happened that didn\u2019t have a reasonable and rational excuse, of course you\u2019d recognize it and speak up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m not going to demand that you publicly disavow your previous political leanings and, like, pledge allegiance to an equal but opposite cause, or something \u2014 that\u2019s your business. But I am going to ask that you take a serious, honest look at your actual, personal beliefs and how they line up with the worldview you\u2019re currently supporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout life \u2014 and I\u2019m not talking about times of political upheaval, I\u2019m just talking about life<\/em> \u2014 we\u2019re given to look back at the Us of a month, a year, ten years ago and ask ourselves if we\u2019re proud of that person. This is the time to ask yourself if Future You will be proud of the person you are right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The answer to that question is absolutely not even a little bit of my business. I\u2019m not going to ask. I\u2019m only going to ask that you<\/em> ask, and that whatever the answer is, you take it to heart. But I\u2019m also going to ask you to ask it now, because the longer you wait, the less chance you\u2019ll have to make good on your answer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
