They look at bikini-clad car-show models and laugh. They watch \u201890s-era beer commercials and say, \u201cHold my beer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Want to see what I mean?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Timeless: The ones that basically just sell women\u2019s body parts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re just going to group these all together here, because they\u2019re not terribly clever or impressive, but they <em>are<\/em> horny: ads that are essentially for faceless women\u2019s body parts, except with a CTA to buy something car-related. \u201cAdjacent to butts\u201d is the main selling point. Not even an implied promise of getting laid \u2014 just, like, \u201cHere\u2019s butts, and there\u2019s also a car.\u201d [<a href=\"#hat-tips\">1, 2<\/a>]<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/capertongillett.com\/blog\/fiat-66\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"565\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/capertongillett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/fiat-66.jpg\" alt=\"A 1966 Fiat print ad. It\u2019s like the creatives were all, \u201cClever, clever, clever\u2026 grr, clever\u2026 cleverHORNDOG, MUST HORNDOG, MUST MAKE ONE ABOUT BLOWJOBS, <em>ahhhh<\/em>. In the year of our Lord 2008, BMW ran and then quickly pulled <a href=\"https:\/\/adsspot.me\/media\/prints\/bmw-you-know-youre-not-the-first-b202e3df8326\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this ad for their Premium Selection Used Cars (courtesy of BBDO Athens, if you\u2019re curious)<\/a> that basically\u2026 I mean, if I try to go into detail about all the reasons it\u2019s bad, I\u2019m going to wake up to Chris Hansen in my kitchen, so let\u2019s just go with <em>ew, no, gross<\/em>. [<a href=\"#hat-tips\">2<\/a>]<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/capertongillett.com\/blog\/bmw-08\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"590\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/capertongillett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/bmw-08.jpg\" alt=\"A 2008 BMW print ad. The ad copy says, \u201cYou know you\u2019re not the first. But do you really care?\u201d In the lower right corner is the BMW logo next to \u201cBMW Premium Selection Used Cars.\u201d Now please put this imagery out of your mind.\" class=\"wp-image-2908\" style=\"width:295px;height:400px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/capertongillett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/bmw-08.jpg 590w, https:\/\/capertongillett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/bmw-08-221x300.jpg 221w, https:\/\/capertongillett.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/bmw-08-177x240.jpg 177w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Like&#8230; keep it in your pants, car advertisers.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, horny car ads have been a thing since a caveman carved the first wheel and thought, \u201cChicks are so totally gonna go for this.\u201d (And in his defense, that might have been enough to get Grogda back to his cave. I mean, come on, y\u2019all, he had a <em>wheel<\/em>.) And we can be sure they\u2019re not going anywhere. But I like to think we\u2019ve gotten to the point, as an industry, that we can be clever and edgy without objectifying women and reaching so hard for raunchy that you end up with eye-roll-worthy crassness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you are going to make horny car ads: Be actually creative, keep it PG-13, stay off Chris Hansen\u2019s radar, and <em>please<\/em> don\u2019t with the dick jokes.
