The Client: The Birmingham chapter of the American Advertising Federation

The Challenge: Put on a unique, creative, fun awards ceremony for an industry that a) has really high standards for creativity, and b) is serious about their awards, and if you do anything that stands between them an an ADDY they will cut you.

The Solution: The process of administrating the 2015 ADDY competition was a project all its own, and promoting and putting on the event was the fun (albeit challenging and exhausting) part. We started by coming up with an awesome, classy theme: Who Killed It?, a film noir celebration of the creatives who really knocked ‘em dead in 2014. We then adapted that for e-blasts, printed invitations, a Web site, a Keynote presentation, a perfect-bound book of winners, a magazine ad spread, event decor, and a giant poster so popular it was stolen from the event venue at the end of the evening. That it was both fun and a roaring success doesn’t mean I’m taking it on again this year, because only one person in the history of AAFB has ever volunteered to do it twice and he now spends most of his time photographing cups of coffee and the side of buildings.
